How does a project get to be a year late? One day at a time.
Fred Brooks
I read this quote and the lightbulb went off. I didn’t gain 5lbs overnight. Laundry didn’t add up to 4 loads in a single day. I convince myself that when I feel overwhelmed it’s because everything hits me at the same time. The truth is, that’s not the truth at all. Whatever we put off piles up. The more we put it off, the more buried we feel underneath all we feel we need to do. The older I get, the more knowledgeable I become about what I can say no, not today to and what is absolutely necessary to stay on top of. It is a tough balance but one I am learning to handle better and better. It’s no fun running behind life to catch up. The pressure isn’t worth trying to run ahead either. One day at a time is all I can handle. Focus on what I have to do today and don’t get all freaked out by what needs to get done this week, this month or over the course of a year. The secret to life is living life one day at a time. Get lost in the details of every minute, every experience, every relationship and there will be no time to get caught up in useless things that just don’t matter.
Just what I needed to hear. Thank you!

I like the way you got this point across. As one who feels like I have to always be working on something, it is among other reminders I’ve been hearing lately that we have to leave room for the new to come into our lives too. If we fill every moment we can fall behind in the pursuit of our dreams.

It’s all about balance. Such a hard thing to find sometimes. I hope you find it. Make room for something wonderful 🙂
